Job Description

The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for ten to twelve Temporary Assistants to support the Museums Learning and Engagement programming including the second annual Family Festival taking place from February 14 - February 18 2026.

Reports to: Department Manager Learning and Engagement.

Salary: This position pays a fixed rate of $26.75 per hour.

Job Type: Temporary.

Responsibilities:

Family Festival Preparation (February 2-February 13):

  • Receives and organizes shipments of materials and supplies.
  • Prepares art materials for Festival activities.
  • Assists with set up of Festival spaces and activities.
  • Attends relevant preparation meetings and trainings.
  • Familiarizes themselves with the general Museum layout exhibition program and Learning and Engagement programs.

Family Festival (February 14-18):

  • Proactively and warmly welcomes guests and assists with Festival visit planning at various locations throughout the Museum. Resolves general complaints from guests and members on site.
  • Attends preparatory meetings at the beginning of every shift and debrief meetings at the end of every shift.
  • Validates Family Festival admission at points of entry to activities.
  • Ensures smooth flow of visitors by proactively guiding visitors to various queues and spaces.
  • Suggests activities for Festival attendees based on childrens age and interests and activity capacity.
  • Answers general questions about the Museum and its programming.
  • Assists visitors with wayfinding.
  • Manages queues and activity capacity limits.
  • Helps maintain organization cleanliness and preparedness with supplies and relevant materials at all activity posts.
  • Reports to management any issues of cleanliness or public safety in Festival spaces.
  • Performs any duties reasonably related to the functions described above.

Post-Festival (February 19-25):

  • Assist with breakdown of Festival spaces and activities.
  • Inventories and organizes leftover supplies and art materials.
    Additional Program Support (February through July)
  • Support Learning and Engagement programs including art workshops gallery programs large-scale events and a large-scale interactive installation taking place June and July.
  • Greet program participants assist with check-in distribute gallery activity or workshop supplies support wayfinding and group management during programs
  • Assist with setup and cleanup before and after programs. Assist with any pre-program prep as needed.
  • Assists visitors with wayfinding.
  • Manages queues and activity capacity limits.
  • Helps maintain organization cleanliness and preparedness with supplies and relevant materials at all activity posts.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with the general public in a customer service environment required. Previous experience interacting with families and youth audiences preferred.
  • Proficiency with languages in addition to English helpful.
  • Proficiency with using Google workspace.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and deescalation experience.
  • Interest in arts and experience with artmaking and artmaking materials preferred but not required.
  • Physical Demands: the employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to stand for long periods of time. The employee is required to work in a public environment with face-to-face contact with the public.
  • Availability for an irregular schedule including weekends evenings and holidays. Hours will be higher during February and June-July. Must be available full-time February 14-18.
  • This position is in scope of MoMAs Protection of Minors policy therefore any offer of employment for this position will be contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check. The background check will be completed by an outside vendor in compliance with all federal state and city statutes.
